Sample Studio support
Product samples with their own price and stock, sold through your Shopify checkout.
Set up a sample
- Create a separate sample product in Shopify Products. Make it active and keep exactly one variant.
- Set its price, enable inventory tracking, and turn off selling when out of stock. Add stock at a location that can fulfill online orders.
- Publish the sample to Online Store and the markets where you want to sell it. Check its weight and shipping profile.
- Open Sample Studio from Shopify Apps and choose a plan if prompted. Select the full-size product and the sample, then save the pairing.
- In the theme editor, open the full-size product template. Add the Order a sample app block to product information, then save the theme. Your template must support app blocks.
The sample keeps its own inventory. The button adds the sample to the store’s cart; your existing shipping and checkout settings apply.
The button is missing
Check that the pairing appears in Sample Studio, the block is on the template assigned to the full-size product, and the theme is saved. Confirm the sample is published to Online Store and the customer’s market. The app also needs an active subscription and JavaScript enabled in the visitor’s browser. The button stays hidden until its first successful access check.
Manage your app subscription
Use Manage subscription in Sample Studio to open Shopify’s plan page. Shopify confirms the price, trial, and any charges before you approve a plan. Reopening or reinstalling the app checks your current subscription before asking you to choose a plan.
A scheduled cancellation keeps access through the period Shopify confirms. Once Shopify ends access, the storefront button normally disappears within six minutes on an open product page. During a temporary verification outage, an already verified button can keep working for up to one hour from the last successful check, but never beyond the confirmed subscription period. Products and pairings are not deleted when a subscription ends.
The button says Sample unavailable
Check the sample’s available stock and publication. It must still have one variant, inventory tracking enabled, and selling when out of stock disabled. The full-size product’s stock does not make the sample available. Reload the storefront after updating Shopify settings.
A pairing will not save
Choose two different existing products. The sample must be active and have one tracked variant with selling when out of stock disabled. Correct these settings in Shopify Products, then try again.
Shipping costs or availability look wrong
Check the sample’s weight, shipping profile, inventory location, and market publication in Shopify. Sample Studio does not set shipping rates. Use a development store and a test gateway for checkout tests.
Remove a sample button or uninstall
Remove the pairing in Sample Studio to hide the button for that product. Neither product is deleted. You can also remove the app block from the template in the theme editor.
Pairings are stored in merchant-owned product metafields and can remain after uninstall. Remove pairings before uninstalling if you do not want to keep them. Reinstalling may require checking the pairing and adding the theme block again.
